Painting the Landscape in Oil with Richard Pikesley 1

This very popular one day workshop led by a superb teacher and very talented artist – Richard Pikesley who is currently President of The New English Art Club, will explore the art of painting from nature outdoors. Working and sketching from the views around the barn, Richard will teach the methods of capturing natural light and how to mix colours tonally, increasing your confidence in experimenting with oils beyond the studio. Richard will demonstrate to the group in the afternoon, painting outside, and also discuss sketchbook drawing and painting.

Born in 1951, Richard started his artistic career at the Harrow School of Art before going to study at the City of Canterbury College of Art in 1970 for three years. Within a year of leaving, he was elected to the New English Art Club and became President in 2013.

Richard’s art education valued both tradition and drawing, and instilled in him a love for landscape and the effects of light and weather. When he paints, Richard aims to capture the spirit of the place, not just to extol its beauty.
